TOTORO is coming to LA!!

I imagine Ghibli animation movies are very popular in the U.S., as well as in Japan. This year, such Ghibli movies are screened at selected theaters in LA!

Some films have already finished screening, including Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, and the like. But some others are still left for this fall and winter.

The coming one is My Neighbor Totoro, which I used to watch countless times when I was a kid. It will be screened on September 30th, October 1st and 3rd, followed by Spirited Away on October 28th to 30th, and Castle in The Sky on November 18th to 20th.

Here’s a brief introduction of Totoro…

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO

(C) 1988 Studio Ghibli

Two sisters SATSUKI and MEI and their father move to the countryside where their mother stays in the hospital for her treatment. At their “new” home, which is actually very old, Mei finds wonderful creatures. Guided by one of them, she encounters TOTORO, a huge fluffy animal (?), in the deep forest.

Spirited Away is another favorite movie. In my high school, a teacher used it as class material and analyzed each character’s function and metaphor in the film.

In fact, I’ve ever seen only first half of Castle in the sky. However, it has been loved and has gained huge buzz every time it is broadcasted on TV. There is one famous line in the climax and everyone tweets the word when the characters say it.

If you have never seen any Ghibli works, this is a good chance for you to enter the world.
